The COOJ Geriatric and Dementia Program was started with the goal of improving the quality of life of senior citizens. It promotes health, well-being, and independence through recreation, creative and therapeutic activities, support services and information. Our area of work spreads across the overall geriatric population and also provides specific rehabilitation services for people with dementia.
2017 has been an eventful year for the eldercare program. June marked the opening of the COOJ Senior Therapy Center – a one of its kind, day facility for seniors, with or without dementia, with various activities that focus on active living and general interest of the elderly. A typical day consists of physical exercises, social time, creative activity and cognitive work, offering a holistic approach towards their wellbeing.
In addition, we also inaugurated the Memory Clinic which provides assessment and treatment opportunities for those suffering from memory problems.
Our annual event, The Golden Stage, held in February saw as many as 300 elders from several aged homes and the community, dance to the tunes of Elvis Presley! And a beach visit for the residents of the Guirim Aged Home provided a splashing time, even for those on wheelchairs!
The icing on the cake was the new bus, which was generously donated by a Swiss organization called Delta.
